Ian Watson retired from HM Revenue & Customs in 2016 after 43 years with HM Customs & Excise and HM Revenue & Customs. He started his career as a Customs officer at Heathrow Airport before spells in VAT, Policy, Intelligence and Criminal Investigation.
In Policy he was the technical specialist for the development of Annual Hours Working and Allowance Payments then the lead for the HMC&E input to the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and went on to implement that in Criminal Investigation where he was the Head of Financial Crime and the Proceeds of Crime National Co-ordinator.
As part of the Senior Leadership Team for Criminal Investigation he was responsible for the Corporate functions including Training, Recruitment, Estates, IT, Change, Professionalism and Staff Engagement with a time in charge of one of the operational regions and Head of Internal Investigations.
Criminal Investigation including money laundering and asset recovery (Incentivisation scheme), leadership and team management, Corporate functions and systems (strategic) review and evaluation. Development of annual hours working and specialist allowances.
